Ceramic Kingdom’s technical menu reads like the curriculum of a small art academy: hand-building, wheel, mould making and slip casting, glaze chemistry, sgraffito — and 3D printing in clay, which barely any other Berlin teaching studio offers. »Progressive art school« is not a slogan here; it is the breadth of the programme.
Behind it is Violaine Toth, a French queer artist with exhibitions at Latch Key and Plantcircle: ornamental work between Arts and Crafts and retro-futurism, black and transparent glazes, collaborations with tattoo artists, illustrators and musicians. The space on Reuterstraße understands itself as an explicitly intersectional safe space — and the Resident Artist Program gives international artists two to six months of free studio space in exchange for workshops and talks: the strongest community mechanism of this research round.
Course reports praise Luis and Mehrnaz for making the physics of the wheel graspable.
