“Wood science first, then the first cut: classic German joinery training translated for evenings and weekends — in groups of four at most, with hand-cut dovetails instead of kits.”
The Hobbytischlerei in Alt-Kaulsdorf does something old-fashioned and consistent: it teaches hobby woodworkers the way a German joinery apprenticeship is built — wood science and theory before the first cut, sharpening by hand, planing and sawing drills, hand-cut dovetails. Finish the foundation course here and you leave with more than a workpiece: you can justify every step you took.
The groups are the smallest in our entire research: at most four in the foundation and advanced courses, two to three in the creative courses — with permanent supervision by journeymen. The work extends to fine woods such as amaranth, zebrano and cherry, up to two-component glue systems for end-grain boards. External reviews are remarkably unanimous: 105 ratings, top marks throughout, with recurring praise for Micha’s clarity.
Between courses there is a workbench and machine rental by the hour from €20 — its own argument in a city without cellars or garages.
