Dorian Bracht went through the classic German path — a joinery apprenticeship in Leipzig — and then extended it in a direction almost nobody here takes: Japanese joinery, Shoji and Fusuma making, furniture that holds without glue or nails. His book »Japanese Joinery« is internationally published; his long-term project of documenting every wood joint in existence stands at more than 120.
That his teaching is in demand beyond Berlin shows across the Atlantic: in the US, Never Stop Building hosts his advanced joinery masterclass. In Neukölln he teaches bilingually in groups of at most seven — and starts every course where his own work starts: at the sharpening stone.
