Jewellery making classes in Berlin
A jewellery making class in Berlin is perhaps the most direct encounter with an old craft: at the start a piece of silver wire lies on the bench pin, at the end you are wearing a ring that did not exist before. No other trade condenses so much craft onto so little material — sawing, filing, soldering, forging and polishing, all on a workpiece that fits into the palm of a hand.
What makes a good jewellery course
The classic way in is the ring-making class: one day, one plain silver ring, every basic technique passed through once. Beyond that you will find weekend courses on stone settings, earrings or chain links. Wedding ring workshops are a chapter of their own — couples forge their own bands, which is entirely achievable by hand and, for many, the most personal part of preparing for the day. What to look for: your own bench with your own tools, a studio with a proper soldering station rather than a craft torch, transparent material prices (precious metal is usually charged by weight) and a group size where the goldsmith sees every solder seam before it glows. Some studios also let you melt down old gold or heirloom pieces — ask in advance, because not every alloy is suitable.
How we choose
Every studio on this page has been visited, its prices, materials and group sizes have been checked, and each one carries an honest verdict from the curator. Jewellery craft evenings with ready-made components and bead workshops without metalwork are not listed — this page is about studios where metal is sawn, soldered and forged. The criteria are laid out openly in How we curate.
Who it’s for
For everyone who wants to wear a piece of jewellery with a story — and for everyone who wants to give one away. A ring you made yourself has a different weight from one you bought, in the literal and the figurative sense. Many studios offer vouchers, and the goldsmithing class in particular is hard to beat as a gift: you are not giving an object, but the hours in which one comes into being.
Curated studios
We are currently curating the first jewellery studios. Every recommendation on CourseBlocks is visited and vetted first — that takes longer than copying a list, and that is deliberate.
Until then: browse all curated studios or read how we choose.
